Who says the French and Americans don’t get each other? UK trade negotiators and financial services boffins in HM Treasury must have asked themselves that question over the past week, as reports trickled out that the Biden administration was digging in over the Northern Ireland protocol, while the florid language emanating out of Paris continued regarding the same sticking point alongside migration issues.

Equivalence decisions do not seem to be top of agenda right now - in public at least.
